Figure Skating in Harlem (FSH) is a remarkable community-based youth development organization that has been making a significant impact in the Harlem community for over two decades. Established in 1997, FSH is dedicated to empowering young girls of color by providing a unique combination of education, leadership development and, of course, figure skating.
With an innovative approach to empowerment and a firm dedication to their mission, FSH has touched the lives of thousands of young girls, helping them develop essential life skills and reach their full potential.
Park North Physical Therapy and Figure Skating in Harlem Partner on Shared Values and Community Mission
This shared commitment to help others reach their full potential is what aligned Park North Physical Therapy with Figure Skating in Harlem. In honor of Black History Month and alongside our mission to give back to the community, our Park North clinics donated $10 for every new patient we had the pleasure of meeting and treating in February and March to help FSH promote youth empowerment and racial equality in our community!
Thanks to the support of our patients and doctor referrals, we were pleased to donate $1200 to the charity last week. That contribution will go directly towards supporting FSH’s school year and summer programs.
“Figure Skating in Harlem is grateful to be recognized by Park North Physical Therapy for our shared dedication to the Harlem community, and commitment to promoting movement which empowers our students on and off the ice.”

Learn More About the Power of Figure Skating
FSH believes in the transformative power of figure skating, which offers numerous benefits to those who participate. Beyond the physical aspects of the sport, such as improved balance, flexibility and strength, figure skating also teaches discipline, perseverance and self-expression. The beauty and grace of the sport captivate audiences, and the discipline required to master the intricate moves instills a strong sense of determination and self-confidence in the skaters.
Education and Leadership Development:
FSH goes beyond the ice, offering comprehensive after-school and summer programming that includes tutoring, educational workshops and leadership development opportunities. Their curriculum focuses on a variety of important developmental tools, including STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), ensuring that the girls gain the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in these vital fields. FSH's commitment to education is evident in the results: 100% of their senior students have graduated high school and gone on to pursue higher education in the last 5 years!
Mentoring and Role Models:
FSH provides its students with mentors and role models who encourage and inspire them to strive for greatness. The organization's staff is composed of dedicated professionals, including teachers, counselors and figure skating coaches, who work tirelessly to support and guide the girls through their journey. Additionally, FSH hosts special events and workshops where accomplished women from various industries share their experiences and advice, further inspiring the girls to dream big.
Community Impact:
FSH's influence extends beyond the lives of the girls it serves. The organization's presence in Harlem has brought attention to the community and has contributed to its revitalization. By transforming the lives of young girls, FSH is creating a ripple effect that benefits their families, schools and the wider community. The program has become a beacon of hope and inspiration, showcasing the power of sport and education in fostering positive change.
